Furoshiki - Size L

Furoshiki is the ultimate ecological wrapping fabric. It is a traditional Japanese technique of folding and knotting fabric used to wrap gifts or carry various everyday objects. It is often called the "fabric origami".

This Furoshiki is made of upcycled cotton (with fabric scraps), which reduces waste and thus preserves the environment. This is why the patterns are random depending on the scraps.

Books, water bottles, chocolate boxes, solid cosmetics,... the Furoshiki makes it possible to wrap all kinds of gifts in a very elegant and ecological way. Indeed, no more need for tape, this packaging holds on its own thanks to the folds.

Once your gift is offered, either you get your Furoshiki back or you make a gift of it in its own right. In both cases, it can be used for a future gift.

Where does Furoshiki come from?

The invention of Furoshiki most certainly dates back to the 8th century in the Nara era (710-794), more than 1200 years ago. At that time, it was intended to protect precious objects of Japanese nobility. It is also called "Tsutsumi" which means packaging in Japanese. It was only during the Edo era (1603-1868) that the Furoshiki became more democratic and developed in the life of the Japanese. After the Second World War, we see a decline in Furoshikis due to a massive development of plastic bags. But thanks to the waste reduction policy, it made a strong comeback in the 2000s and was exported all over the world.

Today, the Furoshiki is an essential part of the zero waste approach!

Some Furoshiki folding techniques:

  • bin-tsutsumi to wrap a bottle.
  • otsukai-zutsumi for a square or rectangular box, visible knot (the most used technique).
  • yotsu musubi also called "four knot packaging" for a square or rectangular box, 2 visible knots.
  • tesage bukuro to make a carrying bag.
  • kousa tsutsumi for wrapping fine items.
  • sao tsutsumi for padded packaging.

Features:

Dimensions: 90 x 90cm to pack a large game box, a bottle, or several gifts.

Material: upcycled cotton.

The Furoshiki is sold with an explanatory note of the folds mentioned above.

Care tip:

You can wash your Furoshiki by hand or in the washing machine to 30°C.

My contribution to the planet:

Furoshiki is an eco-friendly alternative to disposable wrapping paper. It avoids a lot of waste.

In addition, it is handmade in Hauts-de France by people with disabilities or in professional integration with scraps of fabric, so nothing is lost.

A Hauts de France company that creates sustainable alternatives to everyday disposable items.
