Today, Cindy, we are going to show you how to make sand roses. With only 3 ingredients and zero cooking, we make a dessert that will please the whole family. Crispy and so delicious, you can even involve your children!

A little history

For once, little information on the history of this French pastry. We can still tell you that it appears for the first time in the cookbook "L'école de cuisine n°8 Desserts, crèmes, mousses, douces" from 1979 and that the sand rose takes its name from the resemblance to the desert rock of the same name.

The sand rose (the stone) is formed by the crystallization of minerals and forms strips similar to rose petals, hence its name. It is therefore in relation to its shape that the pastry bears this name.

Ingredients for the recipe:

  • 150 grams of chocolate
  • 100 grams of butter
  • 200 grams of  soy flakes

For this recipe, we used leftover Easter chocolates like we did in recipe 33

Steps :

  • In a bain-marie, melt the chocolate and the butter.
  • Once the mixture is melted and homogeneous, add the soy flakes .
  • Form small heaps on the sheet of silicone baking paper.
  • Chill for at least 2 hours.
  • Enjoy your food !

Keep the sand roses cool to prevent the chocolate from melting.

Why put butter in the sand roses?

It will serve as a binder between the ingredients and brings texture to the sand rose. But, if you are looking for a lighter recipe, you can eliminate the butter and replace the chocolate with dark chocolate.

Or if you opt for a vegetarian sand rose recipe, you can simply replace it with coconut oil .

How to preserve sand roses?

They keep very well in the fridge for a few days.
