Land of Sommières

Terre de Sommières is a natural clay with high absorbency. It can absorb up to 80% of its weight in water. It was discovered in the village of Sommières (hence its name) near Montpellier in the 19th century. It is extracted from quarries in the Mediterranean basin and is untreated, unrefined and non-toxic to the environment.

This clay has many properties: it will remove dry stains and without leaving a halo, greasy stains (oils, butter, make-up, diesel fuel, etc.) on carpets, leather, marbles, parquets and concretes but also on textiles (even silk). It will also absorb and neutralize many other stains such as urine on cushions or wine stains on tablecloths.

Tips for use:

If you are wondering how to use Sommières soil, here are some of its uses:

• Removing a greasy stain from a rug or carpet: sprinkle Sommières earth on the stain and leave to act for a few hours. When the soil of Sommières is dry, brush lightly then vacuum. If the task persists, repeat the operation.
• Remove grease stains from clothes, fabrics and textiles: For fabrics that are difficult to wash with water, such as large duvet covers or sofas, Sommières clay is appropriate . Sprinkle to cover the entire stain. Leave to act for a few hours, depending on the age of the stain, rub if necessary then remove the powder using a vacuum cleaner. Brush the garment or fabric only when the powder is completely dry.
• Removing an oil stain from parquet: Start by removing the excess grease left by the oil and sprinkle Sommières clay generously on the stain without rubbing. Leave to act for 2 to 3 hours. Rub the powder gently when it is well impregnated with the stain and vacuum. If the task persists, repeat the operation.
• Removing wine stains from a tablecloth or clothing: this powder will work wonders on red wine stains on tablecloths or clothing. Sprinkle the powder generously on the wine stain, leave to act for at least 3 hours then remove the powder that will have absorbed the wine stain.
• Eliminate urine odors on cushions, rugs or armchairs: in addition to its highly absorbent qualities, Sommières clay will neutralize odors. Same procedure as for greasy stains on rugs or carpets. The powder will be very effective for the little pees of our children or our cat on parquet floors, carpets, rugs and even car seats.
